Life Update: From Orlando to Las Olas
— And I’M Loving It!
Well, look who’s finally dusting off the blog: it’s me! I know, I know, it’s been a minute (or a few… weeks). Life got busy, as it always does, and somewhere along the way, my poor little blog took a much longer coffee break than planned.. But here I am, ready to jump back in, with stories to share and a whole new chapter of my life to talk about.
Now, whether you’re still here patiently waiting or you just stumbled upon this by accident (hi!), let’s pick up where we left off. Spoiler: there’s a big life update, and I think you’re going to love it. Let’s dive in!
Sooo… Just before Christmas, we made a big change—we packed up our life in Orlando and moved to Las Olas, Fort Lauderdale. And honestly? I couldn’t be happier. It feels like everything I was missing finally showed up, wrapped in Florida sunshine. Let me tell you all about it.
I’m Finally Closer to the Beach
First of all, let’s talk about the beach. In Orlando, I lived two hours away from the nearest one, which meant every beach trip felt like a full-blown expedition. Pack snacks, grab sunscreen, plan for the whole day. It was exhausting before I even got there. But now? I’m just minutes away. Like literally: 12 minutes biking!!! I can go to the beach whenever I want, without all the planning. And yes, that alone feels like a major upgrade.
Sidewalks. Actual Sidewalks!
Here’s something really super missed, living in Orlando: sidewalks. Orlando didn’t really have those in most places, and walking anywhere felt like I was breaking some unspoken rule. But Las Olas? There are sidewalks everywhere, and people actually use them! I see people jogging, biking, walking their dogs, and just enjoying the outdoors. It’s such a refreshing change.
It Almost Feels a Bit Like Europe—But With Palm Trees
One of the things I’ve missed most since moving to the U.S. is how easy it was in Europe to walk to the bakery, the coffee shop, or the grocery store. That sense of freedom and connection is something I’ve really longed for. And while Las Olas isn’t exactly Budapest, Rome or Barcelona, it has that same walkable vibe I love. I can stroll down the street, pick up some fresh bread, ice cream or a coffee. It’s the little things, right?
Winter Sunshine Is My Love Language
Let’s talk about the weather. Florida winters are absolutely beautiful. The mornings are cool and crisp, the days are sunny and warm, and the evenings feel just right. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to spend every second outside. I’ve been soaking it all in, knowing that summer is lurking in the background, ready to bring its heat and humidity. But for now, I’m enjoying every bit of this perfect winter sunshine. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there..
Why Las Olas Feels Like Home
It’s been just a few weeks, but I already love Las Olas so much more than I ever expected. There’s this energy here—people are out and about, the streets are alive, and it feels like I’m part of something. Orlando was… fine. Or was it? Did I actually not like the place, or was it just the stuff I went through while I was there that made it feel, let’s say, less than fine? (Don’t worry, I’ll unpack that can of worms in my next post.) Whatever it was, it definitely didn’t have this vibe. Las Olas feels more connected, more vibrant, and honestly, just more me.
Long story short? This move has been one of the best decisions I’ve made in a while. I love being closer to the beach, having sidewalks to explore, and soaking up this amazing Florida winter. Here’s to new beginnings, sunny days, and finding a place that feels like home.
